*THE 11 DAYS IN JANUARY WHEN THE PEOPLE OF WUHAN WEREN’T WARNED VIRUS WAS INFECTIOUS:

Eleven (11) days. That’s how much time passed from the day a 61-year-old Wuhan man became the first known fatality of what would later be labeled COVID-19 – having evidently transmitted the disease to his wife as well – and the day a top Chinese epidemiologist admitted on state television that the new virus was spreading between humans. During those 11 days, around five million people left the city, scattering across Hubei province, China, and beyond. Among them was a woman who flew from Wuhan to South Korea, where she became the third confirmed COVID-19 case outside of China. (The first two cases, in Thailand and Japan, were also people who had flown from Wuham to those countries, but had done so prior to the 11day period in question.)

The 61-year-old Chinese man who died on January 9 had frequented the Wuhan food market linked to many of the early cases. But when the city’s Municipal Health Commission announced his death on January 11, it did not make public the fact that his wife – who had not visited the market – had begun to display symptoms of the disease five days after he did. That should have been a clear warning sign that human-to-human transmission was likely occurring. “We trust our government, and if it’s serious, they’ll be telling us about it and shutting down places but, look, everything is going on normally,” a Wuhan resident told Singapore’s Straits Times on January 10, one day after the man died. At the time the first death was reported, a University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy publication cited the center’s director, Dr. Michael Osterholm, as saying that “red flags” on possible human-to-human transmission in Wuhan could include “infections in patients’ family members who weren’t at the market.”

*JOHN LENNON’S SON: ‘OFFICIAL MEDIA HAVE LOST THEIR LEGITIMACY’, THEY QUOTE CHINESE COMMUNISTS:

Sean Ono Lennon, the son of the late-Beatles band member John Lennon, criticized the media on Twitter this week, stating that so-called “respectable” journalists had been “quoting CCP [Chinese Communist Party] official numbers for months without doubt or hesitation.”  He also derided their selective outrage over where the coronavirus originated — Wuhan or China — and whether it is “racist” to label it a Chinese virus. In the end, he said, “The official media have lost their legitimacy.”

*THOUSANDS SIGN PETITION TO MAKE DR. ANTHONY FAUCI ‘SEXIEST MAN ALIVE’:

“Make Dr. Anthony Fauci People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive,” says a petition posted on the Change.org website. The 79-year-old Fauci is among the experts leading the nation’s evaluation of and response to the Covid-19 outbreak, frequently appearing at the White House coronavirus news conferences. He was a strong and early advocate of social distancing. The petition reads:

“Dr. Anthony Fauci is America’s top expert on infectious diseases. His tireless work to educate and support Americans has affected all of us. His comforting and intelligent demeanor has helped to lessen our national anxiety. He speaks truth to power, a strength few have at this time. His kind face and manner of speaking bring calm during the storm. For sapiophiles and many others, he is the definitive Sexiest Man Alive in 2020. (Sapiophiles are attracted to intelligent people.)”

As of early Friday morning, almost 4,000 people had signed the petition. Amid the bipartisan adulation for Dr. Fauci, press reports said he’s also received threats, prompting the Health and Human Services inspector-general’s office to provide him with a security detail.

*HUNTER BIDEN’S WIFE, MELISSA COHEN, GIVES BIRTH TO BABY BOY:

Hunter Biden and wife Melissa Cohen have welcomed a baby boy amid the coronavirus pandemic. He’s the fifth child for Biden, the son of presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, and the first for his wife, whom he married just six days after they met. Melissa’s brother Garyn Cohen told The Post a “beautiful and healthy baby boy” was born in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 28.

  *EXAMINER – INVESTIGATES: BATS

  • The Bracken Bat Cave in Texas is the largest known bat colony in the world. Over 20 million bats live in the cave, which is more bats than there are people living in Mumbai, India—one of the world’s largest human cities. When the bats leave the cave, the group is so large that it looks like a huge storm on radar. The bats will eat over 200 tons of bugs in one night.
  • Researchers were surprised to find that the female short-nosed fruit bat (Cynopterus sphinx) performs oral sex, or fellatio, on males to prolong copulation. Although fellatio has been observed in juvenile members of the chimpanzee-like bonobo, this is the first time fellatio has been seen in adult animals other than humans. Researchers argue that for bats, fellatio likely has evolutionary benefits.
  • Some Mexican free-tailed bats can fly up to 250 miles (402 km) in a single night. They can fly up to 10,000 feet (3,048 m) high and reach speeds up to 60 miles per hour (97kph).[7]
  • A small colony of bats can eat over one ton of insects in one year, or more than 600 million bugs.
  • A single bat can eat more than 600 bugs in one hour, which is like a person eating 20 pizzas a night.
  • According to Bat Conservation International, 150 big brown bats can eat enough cucumber beetles in one summer to save farmers a billion dollars a year. Those beetles would have had 33 million larvae, which are what attack the crops.

The world’s largest bat is facing extinction due to hunting.

  • The world’s largest bat is the giant golden-crowned flying fox, a rare fruit bat. It has a wingspan of 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 m).
  • There are over 1,100 bat species in the world—only rodents have a greater number of species. In the United States, there are about 45 kinds of bats; the three most common are the Eptiesicus fuscus (big brown bat), Myotis lucifugus (little brown bat), and Tadarida brasilienis (Mexican free-tailed bat). Only three species of bats are vampire bats.
  • In Southeast Asia, small club-footed bats roost inside bamboo stalks. To reach their home, the bats squeeze into an opening as small as 0.4 inches—about the width of a fingernail.[7]
  • In West Africa, small woolly bats live in large spider webs.

*EXAMINER – COMMENTARY: THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

I believe that the most powerful force on the planet is Mother Nature and the second most powerful force is Father Greed, i.e., the markets. The coronavirus spread in America because Trump looked at the problem through the lens of the markets first and the science of natural systems second, if at all. Early on, Trump clearly spent his days watching the markets and downplaying the virus’s potential for rapid spread. If the markets were doing well for investors, Trump thought it meant that he was doing well containing Mother Nature’s Covid-19 disease — one of many Darwinian engines she employs to mercilessly sort out the weak from the fit.

Trump thought that closing off flights from China was enough to stem this growing epidemic and calm the markets — without the mass testing, surveillance and quarantines of the infected that South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore employed to great success. You could hear that in the reckless, premature assurances by Kudlow, Kellyanne Conway and Trump himself that the virus had been contained. Trump even believed he could manipulate markets — which was why he sent Dobbs that autographed chart after HE announced a new policy measure. That for him was the true indicator of his performance against Mother Nature. It was his deadly mistake.

*EXAMINER–INVESTIGATES:

Taking an extra 4,000 steps a day might reduce our risk of dying prematurely, even if those steps are not swift, according to a large-scale new study of moving and mortality. At a time when so many of us are confined to home and worried about whether we are being active enough, the study is especially inspiring in that the added steps do not have to come from running or other vigorous exercise. It finds that for every additional 4,000 steps someone takes in a day, even if it’s just ambling around the block or across the room, his or her risk of dying early from heart disease, cancer or any other cause drops by 50 percent or more.
